About Us
At the age of six, my life changed dramatically and forever. A simple mosquito bite eventually led to me undergoing brain surgery to stop the severe epilepsy which resulted from the bite. This left me with a weakened left side. Despite this, and after lots of physiotherapy, I was lucky enough to go on holidays to various destinations with my parents and as I grew older the places/countries we visited became more varied and exciting, but always with an element of protection and worry from my parents.
Fast forward to 2001 and perhaps the most significant trip ever – five weeks in Australia with my best friend which I’ll never forget and on which my friend persuaded me to try things that I’d normally shy away from as being too challenging.
Fast forward again to 2009 and an even more significant trip to Portugal, completely on my own, to spend time with an old flatmate, using the Assisted Service that many airlines now offer.
It was all these various trips that eventually lead to the creation of The Disabled Holidayer and the want to share my experiences (good and bad) with other disabled people.
